Aroma: Cream vanilla, syrupy, pineapple chunks.
Palate: The aromatic whisky carries notes of roasted rosemary and sweet almonds.
Conclusions: Balanced, elegant and discreet in nature, dark oak with hazelnuts and almonds appear at the end.
Editor Choice: In the 1890's whisky expert Alfred Barnard noted that Craigellachie represented an old-fashioned style of whisky "seldom met with now" which we took as a compliment. Ever since, we have stubbornly maintained the methods that make our liquor so distinctive. It's why we are one of the very few distilleries that still use worm tubs to cool the spirit from the stills. They bestow it with extra flavours of a strong, sulphury nature and help to create a gutsy dram that rivals whiskies twice its age.
RESTLESS PETER MACKIE
Our distillery was co-founded by the legendary Sir Peter Mackie, an obstinate mix of genius, megalomania, and eccentricity. 'Grit' was his favourite word,'hard and long work' his recipe for success and 'efficiency' his motto (he installed a bakery underneath the distillery, to take advantage of the heat it generated).
