Located under the Virgin Mary "Notre Dame de Bonne Espérance" which dominates Pernand, our estate also vinifies a new white Premier Cru called "Sous Frétille".
The name Pernand comes from the Gallic nanto "stream, valley" preceded either by the Latin base petra "stone" or from the Gallic petru "four". Pernand could then be the village of the four valleys, the village located at the crossroads of paths or four milestones (i.e. 6 km) from Beaune.
Frétille is the 385m hill where our beautiful village backs on. Its name comes from the Frankish first "ridge", whose medieval form freste gave rise to the derivative frétille.
The vines are located fifty metres higher than the Clos du Village. We find the same southern exposure. On the other hand, the slopes are more pronounced and the soil poorer: 40 cm of earth then white marl and limestone.
