HIBERNUS Rimani IGP Umbria Rosso 2022
Description: The wine is grown on a 14 degree south-west facing slope at an altitude of 300m above seal level in the green bio-climate of Umbria (the land locked region at the centre of Italy known as Italy’s lungs). It is largely a natural reserve where wine and olives are grown in a bio friendly way in the manner that they have been for centuries. The wine is then taken a few kilometres away to the Cantina Regina which makes it in aluminium vats for about 6 months before it is bottled in April. The soil is clayish but very stony so drainage is good. There are traces of alluvial sediment in the soil which increases the unique flavour of the wine.
The grapes were planted in 2018 and first harvested in 2022 producing about 3000 bottles of wine half red and half white on a 4 acre plot.
Tasting notes: The Cabernet reduces the weight of the malbec a little whilst retaining the full body of the wine. It is a delicious fruity, full bodied but drinkable wine.
Pairing: This wine may be perfectly tasted with steak or pasta.
